FAQ — SPAN-EASY

Question 1

What ages do you serve?

Accepted Answer

We work with children ages 5–12. This is the window when language acquisition is most natural and effortless — children at this age absorb Spanish the same way they learned their first language, through immersion and play rather than memorization.

Question 2

What are the three programs?

Accepted Answer

We offer After-School Enrichment (weekday afternoons for school-age kids), Homeschool Enrichment (flexible daytime sessions for homeschool families), and Private & Small-Group Tutoring (1-on-1 or up to 3 students, weekdays and weekends, in-person or virtual). Each program uses the same play-based, native-speaker methodology.

Question 3

How is SPAN-EASY different from a language app or a big-box program?

Accepted Answer

Three things set us apart: our class sizes are tiny (max 6 students), every instructor is a native Spanish speaker, and we are 100% screen-free. Apps are passive and solitary. Large programs can't give every child individual attention. We built SPAN-EASY specifically because those options weren't working for Philadelphia families who wanted something real.

Question 4

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Accepted Answer

Private and small-group tutoring is available both in-person (Philadelphia) and virtually. Our group enrichment programs (after-school and homeschool) are currently in-person only, as the play-based, movement-heavy curriculum works best face-to-face.

Question 5

Why only 6 students per class?

Accepted Answer

Language learning requires participation — every child needs to speak, be heard, and be gently corrected. In a class of 20, most children are passive observers. In a class of 6, every child is an active participant. The 6-student cap isn't a marketing claim; it's a pedagogical commitment we've held since day one.

Question 6

Why two instructors per group class?

Accepted Answer

Two native speakers means more natural conversation, more individual attention, and richer language exposure. One instructor can lead an activity while the other circulates, encourages, and corrects. It also means the class never loses momentum if one instructor needs to step away.

Question 7

Are your instructors native Spanish speakers?

Accepted Answer

Yes — every SPAN-EASY instructor is a native Spanish speaker. We hire for warmth and patience first, then train in our play-based methodology. We believe authentic accent and natural expression can't be faked, and children pick up on it immediately.

Question 8

Are instructors background-checked?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All SPAN-EASY instructors undergo background checks before working with children. We take the safety and trust of our families seriously.

Question 9

What does a typical class look like?

Accepted Answer

No two classes are identical, but a session typically includes a warm-up song or chant, a story or game that introduces new vocabulary in context, a movement activity, and a conversation circle. There are no worksheets, no flashcard drills, and no screens. Children leave having spoken Spanish — not just heard it.

Question 10

My child has never studied Spanish. Is that okay?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Most of our students start with zero Spanish. Our curriculum is designed for true beginners and builds naturally from there. Children who have had some exposure simply move through the early stages faster — they're never held back waiting for others to catch up.

Question 11

Why no screens?

Accepted Answer

Screen-based learning is passive. Children watch and listen, but they don't produce language. Real language acquisition happens when children speak, respond, and interact in real time with real people. Every minute of a SPAN-EASY class is active and interpersonal — that's why it works.

Question 12

How long before my child starts speaking Spanish?

Accepted Answer

Most children begin producing simple words and phrases within the first few sessions. Sentences and real conversation typically emerge within 2–3 months of consistent attendance. Every child is different, but the play-based immersion approach accelerates acquisition significantly compared to traditional instruction.

Question 13

Where are classes held?

Accepted Answer

Our group programs are held at locations in Philadelphia. Exact locations are shared after enrollment. Private tutoring is available in-person (we can come to you or meet at a mutually convenient location) or virtually.

Question 14

How often do classes meet?

Accepted Answer

After-school and homeschool enrichment groups typically meet 1–2 times per week. Private tutoring sessions can be scheduled as frequently as your family needs — from once a week to daily intensive sessions. We'll discuss the right cadence during your free consult.

Question 15

What if my child misses a class?

Accepted Answer

We understand that life happens. We ask families to give us as much notice as possible. Make-up policies vary by program and are discussed during enrollment. Private tutoring sessions can typically be rescheduled with 24 hours' notice.

Question 16

Do you follow the Philadelphia school calendar?

Accepted Answer

Our after-school program generally follows the Philadelphia school calendar for breaks and holidays. Homeschool and tutoring programs are more flexible. Specific session calendars are shared at enrollment.

Question 17

How much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Pricing varies by program, session frequency, and group size. We don't publish a single rate because we want to make sure families get a quote that reflects their actual needs. The best way to get pricing is to schedule a free 20-minute consult — we'll walk you through the options and give you a clear number.

Question 18

Is the consult really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, completely. No credit card, no commitment, no pressure. It's a 20-minute conversation so we can learn about your child and you can learn about us. If it's not the right fit, we'll tell you honestly.

Question 19

How do I get started?

Accepted Answer

Schedule a free consult using the form on our Schedule page. We'll reach out within one business day to confirm a time. After the consult, if you'd like to enroll, we'll walk you through the next steps — it's straightforward.

Question 20

Do you have a waitlist?

Accepted Answer

Because our classes are small, spots fill up. If a program is at capacity when you reach out, we'll add you to the waitlist and contact you as soon as a spot opens. Scheduling a consult is the best way to get on our radar early.
